01 / 06The meaning
It is not a candle, but it creates intimacy.
It is not a flame, but it warms the gaze.
It is not a candle holder, but it guides us through the dark.
It belongs to memory, yet it has just been born.

Sketch after sketch we kept returning to the same idea, until we said to ourselves: this is a Bugia!

And from there the memories resurfaced: a silent yet indispensable object, everyday gestures that stayed in our minds.

Our grandparents’ Bugia.

03 / 06Two models

One light, or two.

The bugia comes in two versions. One light, suspended on a brass ring. Two lights, where a curved arm interlaces with the ring.

The first, like an ancient bugia, accompanies a table for two: it sits to the side, never coming between the diners, for a romantic atmosphere.

The second takes up the gesture of the candelabrum: placed at the centre of the table, it lights four places, two crystal flames facing each other.

ONE LIGHT
for tables of two

Designed for a table for two, it sits to the side and is equipped with two LEDs: one lights the candle without glare and creates a warm atmosphere, letting you see who you are talking to; the other is dedicated to the functional lighting of the table top. With a high colour rendering index (CRI > 95), it returns the exact quality of whatever it illuminates.

It features a touch dimmer. Battery life at full power is 14 hours; charging time (through a USB-C port) is about 6 hours.

TWO LIGHTS
for tables of four

Designed for a table of four, it sits at the centre and is equipped with four LEDs: two light the crystals without glare, for a warm, shared atmosphere; the other two, dedicated to functional lighting, cast a wide, even light across the table top. With a high colour rendering index (CRI > 95), it returns the exact quality of whatever it illuminates.

It features a touch dimmer. Battery life at full power is 9 hours; charging time (through a USB-C port) is about 6 hours.

04 / 06Anatomy

Anatomy of a bugia.

The LED, the dimmer, the battery and the integrated electronics are the hidden heart of the Bugia: an invisible technology, enclosed between brass, alabaster and crystal, that brings an ancient gesture into the present and turns it into an object made to last.

  1. 01

    Structure

Hand-curved, satin-finished brass. The finish is deliberately “imperfect”, a choice that heightens its materiality to the touch. The metal is protected with a hand-applied varnish that respects its natural character; its particularity is that it can easily be restored or, if you prefer, you can let time do its work, creating a unique patina.

  2. 02

    Solid crystal

The Crystal Masters of Colle di Val d’Elsa handle the molten material with an exclusive technique, which allowed us to create a complex shape with a threaded base. The crystal is thus firmly fixed to the structure and can also be removed easily. The solid crystal lets natural light generate marvellous refractions, and the LED create a special effect at the tip, reminiscent of a candle flame.

  3. 03

    Alabaster base

Volterra alabaster, worked by a small artisan workshop active since the 1950s. We chose it for its veining, interesting and never excessive, and for how it feels to the touch. Its translucent nature absorbs the light of the downward-facing LED without reflecting it, so the glow never disturbs the eye; and it allowed us to hide the charging indicator without extra holes: when the cable is connected, a red light surfaces at the centre of the base.

  4. 04

    LED 2700 K · CRI > 95

We believe light should return everything as it truly is. That is why the Bugia’s LEDs have a CRI above 95, a high colour rendering: everything they illuminate appears exactly as it was created or chosen. And we wanted it warm, 2700 K: a light both functional and intimate.

  5. 05

    Touch dimmer

Progressive adjustment across the full range of intensity. A small brass button, set into the base, turns the lamp on and off and adjusts its intensity. On request, the dimmer can be configured in 4 steps.

  6. 06

    Li-ion batteries 2600 mAh

Two cells in series. In the one-light edition they provide 14 hours of battery life at full power; in the two-light edition, just over 9.

  7. 07

    USB-C port

Hidden in the alabaster base. A full charge takes about 6 hours, with an ordinary 5 V USB power adapter.

  8. 08

    USB-C / USB-A cable

The cable supplied is fabric-braided, soft, pleasant to the touch and long enough to reach even the farthest socket.

06 / 06By candlelight

By candlelight.

“A Lume di Candela” was the moment we lit Il Pezzo 3 Bugia for the very first time.

In our Florentine atelier, where this piece was conceived, designed and created.

A special evening, surrounded by friends, new faces, clients we care deeply about, people who chose to be there, to look closely and to be moved together with us.

It was not just a product launch.

It was the sharing of a promise: to create a simple, slow object, able to tell of our Tuscany, of high craftsmanship, research, engineering, and of the memory from which it all began.

An object that arrived from a memory.
